3 stages to Self/God realization
Religious stage
Atheist stage
Non dual stage
Not knowing stage
The religious stage is characterized by a belief in concepts of God, Soul, heaven and so forth which has nothing to do with reality. These are concepts only and the person is living in a conceptual virtual reality.
The atheist stage is a further evolved stage since the person wakes up and realizes that the treasured concepts of God, Soul, Heaven and so forth are not real. Those delusions are destroyed. It is one’s real passion to find the real God which leads him to destroy his false concepts of God. This destruction of concepts is therefore a step in the right direction. However it is not the end as this stage is really a stage of negation of all that is false and is sometimes characterized by a sense of void or emptiness. To sum it up, the true God or Absolute is not yet found. This is just a transitional stage.
The non dual stage is an expansion of the previous stage. Now it is seen that everything is the one absolute. There is no world. There is no you or me. There is only God and God is all. It is either you or God, there cannot be both. At this stage, only God exists. It is a glorious affirmation of life itself as God. Everything is the flesh of God.
In final stage, the not knowing stage, even the glorious non duality of the previous stage is given up completely. At this stage there is nothing to know. The final knowledge is the end of knowledge. He doesn’t know what anything is. He has no knowledge. This stage cannot be explained or described. Life is lived just as it is. It cannot be described. This level of no knowledge is the highest level of the Supreme Self.
